# Staking Overview

## Proof-of-Stake

The blockchain technology is already securing a significant amount of value in the world. This will increase significantly in the future as more securities and real assets are tokenized and public Blockchains become the global infrastructure for the financial industry.

To run a Blockchain network one needs both hardware and software. Proof-of-Stake (PoS) is a new consensus algorithm for operated blockchains. In 2022, Ethereum made its historic transition to a Proof of Stake (PoS), now relying solely on validators instead of miners. Ethereum forked away from producing blocks through the energy-intensive process of Proof of Work (PoW) mining. As a result, the electricity consumption of Ethereum declined by over 99%. Features of Proof-of-Stake:

1. **99.98% less energy.** In comparison with mining, staking consumes very little energy. In addition Bridgetower aims to only use renewable energy for its staking infrastructure.
2. **Less eWaste.** Minimal waste of electronic devices and no need for special hardware. Validator Nodes can be operated just from any Data Center. Bridgetower operates its staking infrastructure from high-secure facilities in Switzerland.
3. **More resilience.** As it is harder to run a 51% attack against a PoS network, staking is an important method to ensure a resilient network.
4. **More capital efficient.** Capital needs to be locked as collateral in the native token (Staking) resulting in staking rewards.

As an energy-efficient censuses mechanism, PoS allows the development of ESG compliant blockchain networks.

### 3. Exceptional Node Uptime

Bridgetower proudly operates its staking infrastructure with a 99.999% node uptime, which ensures that holders' staked assets are available and earning rewards. Bridgetower's commitment to high uptime ensures that holders can rely on our infrastructure for consistent returns.

### 4. Wide range of supported chains

Bridgetower supports chains with a total market cap of over $1 trillion, offering holders of PoS digital assets a diverse range of options to choose from. This means that holders can stake their assets on popular chains and earn rewards while still benefiting from Bridgetower's reliable infrastructure.

### 5. Energy-Efficient Cooling System

Bridgetower's data centers are operated using only renewable energy and feature a filtered server cooling system that reduces energy consumption. This means that the staking infrastructure is both environmentally friendly and cost-effective.

Overall, staking with Bridgetower offers a reliable, sustainable, and profitable way for holders of PoS digital assets to participate in the blockchain ecosystem. By choosing Bridgetower as their staking partner, holders can benefit from Bridgetower's high standards for infrastructure, commitment to renewable energy, and exceptional node uptime.

## Deep Dive Staking

One core element of the governance structure of public blockchains is that no central entity controls the rules or transactions of the network and safeguards its robustness against fraudulent or malicious attacks. Instead, public blockchains have a specific procedure to verify the correctness of the transactions on the network. To this end, modern next generation blockchains rely on the Proof-of-Stake (“PoS”) consensus model, which provides multiple advantages over the first-generation blockchain’s Proof-of-Work (“PoW”) validation for three main reasons: (1) PoS allows transaction throughput to increase by orders of magnitude, which makes these blockchains suitable for industrial adoption; (2) PoS is significantly reducing energy consumptions in comparison with PoW; and (3) PoS allows large capital allocations in blockchain infrastructure with a significantly reduced risk compared to PoW blockchain infrastructure provider are a key component of public blockchains because the validate and safeguard the integrity of transactions. Transactions are organised in the form of cryptographically linked, sequential groups of transactions called “blocks”. The PoS process comes into play when a block is added to the chain. Hence PoS infrastructure providers are securing and governing public blockchains which is crucial for the financial industry.

In order to participate in securing the blockchain and to be rewarded for this service, participants are required to put up a collateral “stake”. The amount of collateral is important as two metrics are commonly used to determine who is allowed to validate the next batch of transactions (1) a pseudo-random lottery and (2) the “stake weight” itself. If participants perform the process reliably and honestly, they are rewarded according to the amount of risk (stake) that they have on the line.

Bridgetower as a provider of staking infrastructures is offering turn-key staking by setting up and maintain hardware and cyber-security for operators and token holders. Token holders delegate the rights to “stake” their tokens to Bridgetower. Bridgetower automatically receive a cut of the staking rewards paid out to the actual token holder in exchange for providing the infrastructure. Delegation is not the same as transferring ownership. Delegators only transfer the right to stake their tokens without transferring ownership of the token itself. The Bridgetower Market enables the most secure access to staking over its custodial staking platform.

## How does the Bridgetower Staking work?

Staking is the process of delegating or locking up proof of stake tokens on that network for a set period of time to help support the operation and security of a blockchain while having the opportunity to generate passive income through rewards. While proof of work requires mining equipment to solve mathematical equations as in the case for Bitcoin. Staking provides a way for individuals to earn rewards for contributing to the network without relying on traditional mining operations, which can be costly and energy-intensive.

Please refer to the following staking guides for step-by-step instructions on how to stake or delegate to a wide range of validator nodes operated by Bridgetower's secure, reliable staking infrastructure and experienced team.
